Can the experienced and extremely personable Brian Minto beat the rookie Joseph Parker?

I was fortunate to have a chat with Brian, who was extremely personable, nice and friendly and gave me a great insight into his boxing life.

Brian Minto will be fighting Joseph Parker on the 5th of July 2014 at the Vodafone events centre.

The thirty-nine year old American from Butler, Pennsylvania has a 39 win (with 25 ko’s) and 7 loss record. Brian started boxing later in life when he was 28 and before that he held a blue-collar job working in construction, 8 hours a day. Brian started out being a cable television lineman, and then joined the labourers union and carried bricks and blocks for a living.

Brian says that he started to get back into amateur fighting and someone offered him a professional fight and he did it for extra Christmas money. Brian won this bout by knockout and received $400 as a pay check.

He has fought experienced fighters like Marco Huck, Chris Arreola, Donnell Holmes and Andy Sample and beat them all cementing his career in the sport.

Brian comes into this fight six months after his controversial but convincing victory over New Zealand journeyman Shane “The Mountain Warrior” Cameron.

During the pre-buildup to this fight some media outlets have described Brian Minto, “as a dirty fighter” to which he replies openly by saying that everyone has me marketed as a dirty fighter but like I said to somebody on the phone today, if you look at my boxing record and see how many points I was deducted in all my fights you’ll know that this will discredit any comments that I’m a dirty fighter. Even though Brian has had points taken off him in two of his forty-six fights, he is certainly no Mike Tyson, who bit the ear off Evander Holyfield in there title fight in 1997.

Brian knows that he will have to use his experience well against Joseph as “anything can happen”.

Brian says his preparation for this fight has been good under the tutelage of top NZ personal trainer Sean Hughes. He hasbeen working out 2-3 times a day and feels that his footwork has improved tremulously in preparing for this fight.

For this fight Brian has got experienced Kiwi boxing trainer Chris Martin in his corner. Chris has done work with many of New Zealand’s finest boxers including David Tua, Danielle Smith and he also helped train Joseph Parker for his first fight.

Brian is currently being sponsored and supported by local businesses such as 2XU, Sean Hughes Fitness (a Top NZ Trainer) and George Duncan Muscle Therapy.. His team would like to extend a personal thank you to Boxing Alley and Next Generation health and racquet club for providing him with training facilities whist he is training in New Zealand. If you are interested in sponsoring Brian for his upcoming fight please feel free to contact Cheryl Bennett at cerinett@gmail.com. He would appreciate your support.
