The 2014 V8 Supercars season is commencing this weekend at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, with brand new livery’s and drivers that have changed teams in the off season
The 2014 V8 Supercars season is commencing this weekend at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, with brand new livery’s and drivers that have changed teams in the off season
Some of the driver changes this season include:
· Chaz Mostert who left DJR to join Ford Performance Racing, replacing former FPR driver Will Davison.
· Will Davison joined Erebus Motorsport to replace Mario Engel
· Erebus lost one of its racing licenses to the Holden Racing Team
· Giving Nick Percat a seat in the main game
· The seat left vacant by Russell Ingall will be taken by Tim Slade.
During the 2013 V8 Supercars season, many V8 Supercar fans believed that Supercheap Auto Racing Team driver Russell Ingall was going to retire at the end of 2013, but Ingall came back and said that he was coming back in 2014. In a scaled back Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport who handed back one of its racing licenses and is running one car built by Triple 8.
2014 is bringing in new manufacturer Volvo, and will be used by Garry Rogers Motorsport, will be boosted with well needed support from the manufacture
New manufacturer Volvo has entered a car in to the competition this season. Garry Rogers Motorsport will be driving the brand new car. GRM will be receiving well needed financial support from Volvo, which gives the team a great boost. Holden sadly did not give the financial support that GRM needed and stopped financial assistance.
There are 14 events this season, the first race of the season is setting off in Adelaide. Following this event is the non-championship event supporting the Formula 1 at Albert Park continuing on to Winton, Tasmania.
The only race that will be held outside of Australia is at Auckland’s, Pukekohe Race Track. Other races in New Zealand, were canned because deals fell through and the crowd numbers were too low. Following the trip to New Zealand, we will see out the rest of the season in Perth, Darwin, Townsville, Ipswich, and Sydney motorsport tracks.
We aren’t sure how the teams will get on between the 10th and 20th. It comes down to how reliable the cars are.
The Enduros follow up with Sandown, Bathurst and the Gold Coast. Phillip Island and the Sydney 500 will be the last two events seeing off the 2014 V8 Supercars season.
This year’s top contenders will be battling it out for places on the podium, the likes of Jamie Whincup, Craig Lowndes, Garth Tander, Mark Winterbottom, Chaz Mostert, and James Courtney are some of the top contenders in the competition, and are most likely to be on the podium.
