Bouncing back from a tough year with Holden’s Jason Bright
51 Thoughts was lucky enough to speak to Team BOC’s Jason Bright and get his thoughts on the upcoming year.
V8 Supercar veteran Jason Bright felt that he had a difficult year in 2015. Jason who last year brought up 500 race starts at Townsville and also 50 podiums, felt that they started the year well but lost the good start that they made due to the team running all three cars on the same setup. Jason’s results improved at the end of the end because he went back to his setup that worked for him in 2014. Jason also fell that some DNF hurt his championship hunt in the middle of the end of the year and ended up sixteenth in the championship.
The V8Supercar calendar has come out for this year with two interesting changes. The first key change is that for the first time since 2013 the round will make its way up to Kuala Lumpur. Jason feels this is a good move as its closer to Australia “Going to the Middle East or America was quite an expensive trip for a lot of Aussies and it’s good to have a round that a lot closer. I think that we will see of Australia’s going over and checking out that event.”
The second change that the V8Supercars have made is dropping the split races on the Saturday and bringing in tyre changes one race per day. V8 Supercar fan enjoy strategy based races because it makes the races interested. Jason agrees with that and feels that the “soft tyre produces better racing with more passing and sometimes we see a bit more than that. I enjoy those types of races where there is a bit more strategy involved.”
Another interesting addition to the V8 Supercar year is the inclusion on the top ten shootout returning to Hidden Valley. Jason feels that bringing in a few more ten top shootouts create an interesting mix to qualifying but he doesn’t feel that they should be at every round. “They are quite challenging and they mix up the grid a little bit. So I don’t really have a drama with either system but I think top ten shootouts are good, we sort of don’t want to be using them at every round though otherwise as it takes something away from the rounds where we do have them.”
Jason hopes to be more competitive this year and pick up from where he left off at the end of last year. “I think we can be battling for podiums at different rounds. I think if we can be inside the top ten I’m confident we can have a better year than last year.”
